I wrote a post on my own blog this week about one of my main potty training tips - trying NOT to turn it into a competition. However, that's admirable advice, if I do say so myself...but how are you actually supposed to deal with the mum that says their 18 month old was trained before she was 2 days old?!?

Babies are designed or pre disposed to breastfeed, even from before birth. We can observe them on scan images sucking their thumbs and swallowing and sucking whilst in the womb.  As soon as a baby is born, one of its survival reflexes is crawling. A newborn baby if placed upon its mother’s tummy will crawl up to the breast, following the scent and when approaching the breast will look for the darker area of the areola. Instinctively babies know how to attach and to feed, they are designed to breastfeed and ready to breastfeed. The question is, are you?

Well where do I start? You will definitely see changes in your family and how they act towards you. If anything, especially with parents, they seem to treat you even less of an adult even though you too have now brought life into the world and have the biggest responsibility you could possibly ever have. They will give advice on how to bring up your child even though it may be a while since you were born, and let’s face it, things change. It’s great to have help but sometimes this can be a little too much and seem more like interfering. Just remember that they only have your best interests at heart.
