Beko Mums United Top 10 Family Tips

Did you know that every day items such as Baby Oil, WD40, flat Coca-Cola and banana skins can be the key to saving time and money around the house? According to an online poll by Beko Mums United, they can!

Over 12,000 parents submitted their top tips on the Beko Mums United Facebook page to find ways in which families could save time on household jobs in order to spend more time getting active and having fun as a family.

White goods manufacturer Beko has discovered a nation of super tipsters covering everything from the use of Baby Oil to deliver gleaming kitchen chrome services, WD40 to remove lipstick and other tough stains, flat Coca-Cola to create a gleaming toilet bowl and banana skins to help buff shoes.

Beko UK and Ireland Marketing Director, Teresa Arbuckle, commented on the announcement of the top ten tips:

“All parents know that running a family is both the toughest and most rewarding job in the world. We’d all rather be out having fun but managing a busy family home sadly doesn’t take care of itself. Beko Mums United has unveiled the top 10 tips that every parent should have up their sleeve to save time and money to focus on the things that matter such as enjoying a family walk or kicking a football in the park!”

Rank 1) Melanie Edjouiran, London
Polish bathroom and kitchen chrome surfaces with baby oil to remove stains and bring out a nice streak free shine.

WD40 removes grease marks including lipstick and crayon. Spray on, leave for ten minutes, rub in washing up liquid and then wash as normal!

If you have a bottle of flat Coca-Cola, pour it down your toilet, leave it for 15 mins and then flush to reveal a gleaming toilet basin.

If you want to save time polishing shoes, rub a banana skin over them and then use a cloth to buff it of. A great tip for shiny shoes that saves time and money.

Kitchen surfaces forever getting greasy? Spray with vinegar and wipe down with cold water after 15 mins. This not only removes stubborn grease but also stops it building up.

Do the kids ever come back with biro stains on their white school shirts? Pour milk over the stain to lubricate the stain before putting it in the washing machine.

Forget about spending money on expensive fertiliser for your garden. For all those coffee lovers, spread used coffee grounds over your plants and watch them grow!

Dirty trainers clog up your washing machine when you put them in the washer? Tightly pack muddy trainers with screwed up plastic carrier bags before putting them in the washing machine. They’ll dry more quickly and won’t smell damp.

When shower curtains show signs of lime scale add a few drops of lemon juice to a bowl of soapy water, leave to soak over night and rinse.

Get chewing gum out of clothes by freezing them overnight. If you don’t have enough space in the freezer, cover the item of clothing with a paper bag and iron without steam.

The Beko Mums United community was invited to vote for their top tip on the Mums United facebook page. A tip from a London mother of two, Melanie Edjouiran, 35, was voted the number one by 63,000 parents. Melanie said:

“Baby oil is the secret formula every house hold needs to clean chrome kitchen appliances. This tip has been handed down from my mum who swears by it. It’s great to think that an Edjouiran family tip will be helping families across the UK spend less time cleaning and more time having fun as a family!”

As well as having her tip selected as the favourite from over 12,000 tips, Melanie Edjouiran is now the proud owner of £3,000 worth of Beko home appliances. Melanie added:

“We were in the process of deciding whether to go on holiday or re-do the kitchen. Mum’s tip has solved that problem and now we’re hoping to take Emily and Amy to Euro Disney!”
