If you are currently looking to buy a new pushchair or pram, then it is important that you know what type would be best suited to your needs, before you go out and start browsing the shops.
If you’re fully prepared with the knowledge of exactly what you’re going to do with it and where you’re going to be taking it, you will be better equipped to buy a pushchair that suits you down to the ground.
Of course, it can sometimes be difficult to know this ahead of the arrival of your bundle of joy, but that’s why we’re here – ask yourself the following questions, and it should help narrow down those myriad choices.
Q1 – How Many Bundles?
Perhaps this is a rather obvious little question, but it should definitely help somewhat.
If you’re only expecting the one little rugrat, then you’ll be looking at single seaters. If the forecast says “twins”, then you’ll want to search for twin pushchairs, or tandems. Pretty obvious stuff, really. Any more than two and you’ll find you don’t have quite as many choices to make…
Q2 – How Old Is the Little One?
If you have a baby on the way, you’ll want either a coach style pram (the big, bulky ones that let the bairn lie fully back) or a pushchair that can recline completely. Until they are at least three months old, newborns should not be made to sit up; it can damage their backs.
If you’ve already got your babe in arms and Tabitha or Giorgio is at least three months old, you have more options. A lightweight, single pushchair could prove to be more convenient if you need to get about more.
Q3 – What Will It Be Used For?
Different pushchairs and prams will suit different people. For example, if you tend to travel a lot using the car, you might want to consider a 3 in 1 travel system. These flexible fancies can do it all – a proper pram one minute, a versatile pushchair the next, then with a click of a button it’s detached and you’ve got a car seat!
If instead you prefer to walk everywhere, and you like to go shopping with baby, a forward-facing pushchair would be your safest bet, as they often have baskets hung underneath. Prams tend to have these too, but they might be too large for getting around!
There are many different types available to you; to get a good feel of what’s right, we’d suggest visiting a site like Cosatto.com.
Q4 – Where Will It Be Kept?
This is an easy one – if space is at a premium in your home, avoid a big, bulky pram, and instead opt for a lightweight, single pushchair: these fold up easily so they can be put away almost anywhere.
Q5 – What’s the Budget?
Obviously, this one is entirely up to you. Go for the best of everything if you can afford it, but there should be something available for any budget; shop around!
