Well back to work for most of us, this can be a bit of a testing time if, like most your baby is waking several times in the night. Sleepless nights can take their toll. I used to start the working day with at least three mugs of coffee before seven thirty followed by plenty more throughout the day. For me it was a choice of falling asleep at my desk or coping with the caffeine induced headaches, and after a verbal warning from my manager, I decided it was best to opt for the latter. It does get easier as the weeks go by and you do get used to whatever amount of sleep you are getting, and to be honest most employers totally understand.

I love Christmas. It's an amazing time where we can all feel like a child again; the anticipation of the presents under the tree, the decoration, even the gaudy lights.

When you actually have children, it somehow seems even more magical. Christmas steps up a level.

Before kids, we used to have a fun-filled Christmas, but it generally involved office parties, too much punch, and Boxing Day blues.

After kids, Christmas is different.

Towards the end of this month is traditionally the time when we look back on the year often with a little nostalgia and think through what we have and what we haven’t done.  We then turn to considering what we would like to achieve over the coming year.

As parents we are so often focusing on the negative how our kids behaviour has not been great – that tantrum they had in the middle of Marks and Spencer, how we lost it and got really cross, how we haven’t handled situations well, how all they seem to do is bicker etc etc
