Reflexology and children – an eczema case study

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body. Reflexologists work holistically with their clients and aim to work alongside standard healthcare to promote better wellbeing for their clients. Children seem to respond and react really quickly to reflexology and so progress is often quicker and more noticeable in them than in adults.

A recent case is of a little girl aged 18 months, whose mother says that her daughter has been transformed as a result of having just four reflexology treatments. She originally brought her daughter to the clinic having heard a talk on its effectiveness on babies and toddlers. ‘A’ had eczema that was affecting her all over her body and especially on her chin, arms and legs. The patches were sore and weeping.

By treatment two, she had shown a marked improvement in terms of sleeping throughout the night (for the first time) and her mother said that she was much less ‘cranky’. After treatment three, her skin was really starting to improve and by treatment four the following changes were observed:
  • Her skin had almost totally cleared up
  • Four teeth had emerged without apparent suffering.
  • She was talking and communicating much more – family on a recent visit were amazed at the difference that three weeks had made.
  • She had become a much calmer and happier child.
  • Most importantly, she had stopped crying, scratching and whimpering all the time.

Reflexologists often gain clients for whom reflexology is a last resort but perhaps it deserves to be higher up the list? Why not try reflexology for your children, you might be amazed at the results.

Where can I find out more about reflexology?

The Association of Reflexologists has an excellent website full of useful information, including a ‘find a reflexologist’ service, where you can put in your postcode and find a well-trained and insured reflexologist local to you. There are also interactive foot and hand maps and videos of real client’s experiences should you wish to find out more at www.aor.org.uk
